at last nights meeting someone had Instability with ubuntu 7.10 did
disabling the
eye-candy fix your problem ?
does the card have a fan and is the fan working ok you can run nvidia-settings
and should be able to see temp info about the card there. (
nvidia-settings is installed part of the
nvidia driver its a gui program for setting options and hotpluging
displays for nvidia cards also
nvidia-xconfig is installed which is a command line tool neither gets
menu entries)
you using the 7.10 configured xorg.conf or 7.04 xorg.conf ( asking
cause they added some option for nvidia cards to
work better witht he eyecandy)
you have an nvidia 7300 , might need to see whats going on with all
hardware and modules loaded
is it agp or pcix ?
install openssh get the computer to hard lock then log on remotely to
see if you can access logs / system massages
from what you explained . it sounded like an eyecandy related problem
that happened with certain ati x300-x600 cards
