 all i had to do was reset the modem -- unplug power & ethernet -- restart & tada everything back to normal. sometimes can't see the solution for an obvious..... tks anyhow for the advice

    I concur with Mark, try the IPv6 hack, and see if that gets rid of the
problem.  If not, you might just need to backup your bookmarks, remove and
reinstall.  I don't know why, but I have had to do this twice on Mom's
Windows box after the last two Firefox updates.
