Valid point. Distro is Debian Etch. Nvidia has the driver wrapped up with an
installer that is supposed to be generic (except for SuSE). I was just
wondering if anyone had used it and what they thought of it.

Ok, if I understand you correctly, this is the binary self-extracting,
instead of something that expects you to sudo apt-get install nvidia -
/glx/legacy/whatever?
If so, I used to use those self extracting ones back when I was using
SuSE. It was pretty easy, and put everything where it belonged, save for
answering a few questions and double checking the x11/xorg.conf file.
If it is the .deb kind, I have been installing them and other than the
occasional glitch with screen resolution, I haven't had problems.
I don't know if the above helps, but there it is (grin)
