i run through my home built linux based router which im upgrading to a p4
soon
currently its a p3 900 and i think 256 or 512 mb ram even hooking directly
to the modem gets the same results
usually linux running on a pc to do routing / nat does not suffer like the
home based router units that have very li ram
speaking of which i think i will get started on that today so besides
routing / nat it also does dns look-ups to avoide mediacoms slow dns ... lol
dhcp and firewall ( using shorewall )
ive been noticing when modem go bad they start to get really bad ping times
ive hit in the 300
if its sateration then they cant provide the service i pay for so i complain
and will not pay lol
my friends modems went bad and his just did the same thing except his would
connect at like 3k tops .... replaced his modem and now hes
getting his 7.8mb down and 512k up
