[QCLUG] Meeting Place

I like the idea of rotating the meetings, although for sanity's sake,
i would like to see it narrowed down to 2, possible 3 places at the
most, and with a fairly fixed schedule (or at least locations
confirmed 4-6 weeks in advance).
I have really enjoyed the meetings we have had at CIPA Filter. While
East Moline may be a little far for some of us, the meeting room is
nice, and CIPA really fits with the ideals of the LUG. CIPA has built
an entire business (actually, 2 businesses) around a custom-built
Linux distro. I feel the meetings we have had there have been
productive, and it would make an excellent spot in the future. While
making it the permanent home would probably be overstaying our
welcome, I think they may be more open to a longer term hosting if the
commitment were something like every other month or every third month.
While parking at Augustana isn't ideal, I do like the fact that we got
fresh faces in. Hosting at Augie (or potentially any other local
college) gives us an excellent way to reach out to students and let
them experience Linux. From my understanding, the LUG was well
received at the St. Ambrose technology fairs. While I know colleges
tend to be resistant to outside groups hosting regular meetings,
perhaps we could speak with someone from the Comp Sci department. If
we push to get the faculty and students involved, perhaps they would
be more open to it. The big downside to any college, however, is they
are pretty much closed down over breaks and holidays. Augustana
students have finals this week, then start their summer break.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this month's meeting at the
Bettendorf library, so I can't really provide any opinion on it.
What does everyone else think?
