Theoretically, yes. It gives you a phone number, and when people send
SMSs to that phone number, it'll arrive in your Google Voice account.
*But*, it may not work for verifying your authenticity considering
you're signing up for a different Google service, and it may be like
"Wait, that's a google voice number, this guy is crazy".

Google Voice is nice though, you can direct it to your land line
phone, adds voice mail and stuff like that. Free long distance
calling, etc.
