Well, over the weekend, I fetched and installed. Laptop is running fine
with 9.10, as well as the desktop. Other than faster loading and other
small improvements, it seems to be working quite well for me. There is
even a slideshow of space pics in the Appearance/Background section that is
quite pretty.
Mythbuntu 9.10 however.... It seems to still be having trouble
detecting/dealing with analog video cards. I installed, booted, did the
backend setup with the same settings I used with my previous version.
Bring up the frontend, and no video. Go back, erase everything tuner
related, reenter, now I have video, no audio. At least the audio was easy
to fix. Bring up volume control/mixer and add a switch for Master Front
and PCM, problem solved. However with no usable analog video, I didn't
bother testing the rest of it, as I can't tinker for days missing
recordings while I figure out how to get the software to see a card that is
well supported.
So, after about six hours of messing with stuff, I went back to my backup
of the previous version. It may have some new neat features, but if it
can't find my analog tuner card, I don't see the point in 'upgrading' to
something that takes away features.
I will bring the laptop to the November meeting if anyone wants to play
around with 9.10 before deciding. Anyone want me to burn cds of the 64 and
32 bit desktop versions for them?
