I have to disagree- I just sent a few emails from outlook - plain text, rich text and html - and got:

:)

--DB

On Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 4:32 PM, Barry Von Ahsen <barry@vonahsen.com> wrote:
I used mutt when in a terminal or Thunderbird in Xwindows.
You Windows Friends should protect themselves: Also this is a good article
on that note: You're Not Paranoid, Your Antivirus Just Doesn't Work Well -
Emoticions are just text chars that certain programs replace with animated
graphics.
Thanks Mark. That's one way to do it but I will probably be to lazy.
What email program do you recommend? Follow up question is does it have
a way to check for virus' to protect my Windows using friends and does
it have emoticon's?
It doesn't appear as though KMail has an emoticon insertion panel of any
sort. There's always emoticon cheat sheets like this one
I mailed this earlier but used the wrong return address So will
re-send using the correct one. Sorry about the duplication if you
receive both.
This question kind of ties in with my previous email asking for
help with anti-virus software.
I have been using Thunderbird to read my email. I like it fine
and like to use the smilies. Since I am having problems with
ClamAV and Firefox I tried using Kmail. I like it fine except a
couple of thing, the biggest of which is I can't find a way to use
smilies (except to remember all the code like :-) to put them in).
Does anyone know how to install an add-on to Kmail to have
smilies available? Or, does anyone know an email reader that has
smilies and that an anti-virus program will work with?

I have done a lot of Googling but can't seem to find an answer so
I guess it's time to ask for help.

Thanks for the assistance.
